81.) LOS DIFERENTES USOS DE "AS" = COMO

   


   "Wow! My motorcycle isn´t as nice as yours"








Se usa "AS" = COMO : para hacer una comparación entre personas y cosas y hay diferentes formas de hacerlo:


1.) AS + ADJETIVO + AS
Ejemplos:
-Juan is as strong as Paco  = Juan es tan alto como Paco
-Lucia isn´t as happy as Andrea =  Lucia no es tan feliz como Andrea
-I´m as hungry as a horse  =  Tengo tanta hambre como un caballo
-I´m not as tired as you are, so I´ll drive.  =  No estoy tan cansado como tu, asi que conduzco yo
-Is Japanese food as good as Chinese food?  = ¿Es la comida Japonesa tan buena como la comida china?
-Our apartment isn´t as big as yours  =  Nuestro piso no es tan grande como el tuyo
-Linda isn´t as nice as her sister Ann  = Linda no es tan simpática como su hermana Ann
-It´s not as hot as yesterday  = No hace tanto calor como ayer
-It wasn´t as expensive as we thought  = No era tan caro como pensábamos


2.) AS + ADVERBIO + AS
Ejemplos:
-Women drive as well as men  = Las mujeres conducen tan bien como los hombres
-They don´t drive as slowly as people think  = Ellas no conducen tan lento como la gente se creen.
-Americans speak as quickly as Spanish people  = Los Americanos hablan tan rápido como los españoles
-You play the piano as beautifully as your brother  = Tocas el piano tan maravillosamente como tu hermano
-I didn´t do as badly as you in the driving test  =  No lo hice tan mal como tu en el examen de conducir
-I don´t play tennis as often as you do  = No juego al tenis tan a menudo como tu

3.) AS + MUCH + "SUSTANTIVO INCONTABLE" + AS 
Ejemplos
-I don´t have as much work today as yesterday  =  No tengo tanto trabajo hoy como ayer
-I don´t drink as much coffee as I used to  = No bebo tanto cafe como solía
-Do you have as much time as me do sports?  = ¿Tienes tanto tiempo como yo para hacer deporte?
-I wish I had as much money as him  =  Ojala tuviera tanto dinero como el
-Did you eat as much food as me?  = ¿Comiste tanta comida como yo?

OTRA CONSTRUCCIÓN CON: "AS MUCH AS"  = AUNQUE
Ejemplos:
As much as I´d like to go, I can´t  = Aunque me gustaría ir, no puedo
As much as I´d like a car, I can´t afford to buy one  = Aunque me gustaría un coche, no puede permitirme el lujo de comprarme uno

4.) AS + MANY + "SUSTANTIVO CONTABLE" + AS
Ejemplos:
-We didn´t sell as many laptops as we had expected  = No vendimos tantos portátiles como habíamos esperado
-I visited as many countries as I could  =  Visité tantos países como pude
-They´re weren´t as many people today as yesterday  =  No había tanta gente hoy como ayer
-I can´t read as many books as you do =  No puedo leer tantos libros como tu
She doesn´t have as many friends as she´d like to  = No tiene tantos amigos como le -gustaría

5.) OTROS USOS CON "AS"
     SO + ADJETIVO + "AS" + INFINITIVO
Ejemplos:
-Carlos was so stupid as to ask his boss for a raise  = Carlos era tan tonto como para pedirle a su jefe por una subida en salario
-Would you be so kind as to help me with this?  =  ¿Serías tan amable ayudarme con esto?
-She was so confused as to tell David to get lost  = Estaba tan confusa como para decirle a David que se esfumara

6. "SO AS" + INFINITIVE = "PARA PODER" Y "PARA NO"
Ejemplos:
-So as to speed up the paper work, you can do it yourself  =  Para poder agilizar el papeleo, puedes hacerlo tu mismo
-So as to catch the train on time, we have to get up early  = Para poder coger el tren a tiempo, tenemos que levantarnos pronto
-So as not to break the table, we´ll have to be very careful  = Para no romper la mesa, tendremos que tener mucho cuidado
-So as not to arrive late, let´s take a taxi  =  Para no llegar tarde, cojamos un taxi

7.) "AS IF / THOUGH " = COMO SI
Ejemplos:
You always act as if you know everything  = Siempre te comportas como si supieras todo
The way he plays the piano, it´s as though he were born with this gift  = La forma que toca el piano es como si hubiera nacido con este don
Look at his angry face; it´s as if he´s gone crazy  = Mira su cara de enfado; es como si se hubiera vuelto loco

También se puede usar en lugar de "So as to", "In order to = para poder
Ejemplos:
-In order to speak english well, it´s important to read a lot of books in english  = Para poder hablar inglés bien, es importante leer muchos libros en inglés
-In order to do well in the interview, you should be realaxed  = Para poder hacerlo bien en la entrevista, deberías estar tranquilo
-In order not to get a fine, you musn´t drive so fast  = Para no tener una multa, no debes conducir tan rápido
-In order not to catch a cold, it´s a good idea to eat oranges  = Para no coger un resfriado, es una buena idea comer naranjas

Unas expresiones:
"As far as I know"  = Que yo sepa
-As far as I know, Juan had to go to the dentist  =  Que yo sepa, Juan tenía que ir al dentista
-I repaired the bicycle. "It´s as good as new" =  Arreglé la bici. Está como nueva
"As long as" = "Con tal que" y "Ya que"
-You can come, as long as you bring a friend  = Puedes venir, con tal que traigas un amigo
-As long as you´re here, you can help me move the piano  = Ya que estás aquí, puedes ayudarme mover el piano
-Your English will improve, as long as you always read books in english  = Yu ingles mejorará, con tal que siempre leas libros en ingles

1. Soy mas alto que tu y por eso juego mejor que tu al baloncesto.
2. No soy tan feliz como me gustaría ser.
3. Las mujeres conducen tan bien como los hombres o incluso mejor.
4. No había tanta gente como esperábamos.
